Headway News - September 2020
- 31 August 2020
At the time of writing this, Auckland is due to go down to Alert Level 2 on Sunday 11.59 pm.
So I hope that by the time you are reading this, we are indeed at Alert Level 2 and you are all equipped with a mask for public transport and a COVID tracker on your phone. If, like me, you have a phone that won’t download the app, you can either photo the COVID Tracker poster when you eventually get back to Headway House, or just sign in the old-fashioned way.
Let’s hope we are back to nearly normal very soon, so Headway House can open back up and we can get our groups up and running again. We are looking forward to welcoming you back.
Meanwhile take care and stay safe.
Best wishes
Ruth Hamilton
Download the NZ COVID Tracer app
If the virus reappears in the community, keeping track of where you've been will help our health services to quickly trace close contacts and break the chain of transmission.
If you use NZ COVID Tracer, it's a lot easier for health officials to let you know about any risk of exposure.
NEWSFLASH... Headway House Remains CLOSED!
It was discovered in hindsight that we sprung a leak over the first extended lock down and 470 000 litres of water slyly soaked into the soil under Headway House.
The culprit was a burst pipe which remained undetected under the house for many days. Situated on flat land with nowhere to run the water soon overwhelmed the water table and became a monumental rising damp. So much so that it has extensively saturated the floor.
The vinyl in the kitchen /dining room has been removed and the area is currently being dried out. This will take many days then the floor will need some further repairs before replacement floor coverings.
The damp problem may require areas of the carpet being removed as well. It all adds up to a lot of work. You will be able to see in the attached photo that Headway House is now an official Work Site with a Posted Notice and Caution on the front door.
No one is to enter the building until further notice.
So we will be Absolutely Closed Next Week.
That is 1 to 5 September
On Thursday 3 September I will send out another update. I can say in advance however that the TBI Group scheduled for 10:30 am next Wednesday 2 September go ahead on Zoom. Julie Preston will send out details for this.

A reminder to you all that face coverings will become compulsory on public transport from Monday 31st August. Please be aware and check if you are eligible for an exemption. Here is a link to a site for all the information you need: www.covid.19.govt.nz.
On a more cheerful note... Headway Harmonies
Headway Harmonies is open to anyone, of any level of singing experience, and we usually do a performance at Headway House every 6-8 weeks.
All of our practices involve a warmup and some vocal exercises, and then we sing through some of the songs that have been requested the previous week.
If you can't make it to practices, you can also participate in Headway Harmonies through the Song of the Week WhatsApp group, in which we send out a new song plus backing tracks to practice at home every week.
Here's a list of the songs we're currently singing in Headway Harmonies.
