Headway News, August 2021

  • 3 August 2021

Steve and I represented Headway at The Mount Albert Community Centre’s Wellness Day on 25 July. Our purpose was to tell more people how Headway helps people affected by an enduring brain injury. I used some of the stories from our website to illustrate the benefits of joining the Headway community.

Personal stories are a wonderful way of connecting with people and engaging their emotions. The interview with the Black Ferns after their spectacular gold medal win as well as the one with Valerie Adams and her bronze medal win are examples of this. Here is a link to share your story with us.

Share Your Story

I visited the Remuera Wool shop last month and the staff there kindly donated a bag full of all sorts of wool for our knitting and craft group. There’s plenty of room for more knitters and crafters, so do come along every Wednesday from 10.30am - 12pm.

Best wishes
Ruth

Mount Albert Community Centre’s Wellness Day - 25th July

On Sunday 25th July Ruth and Steve represented Headway at the Mount Albert Centre's Wellness Day. It was a great opportunity to share our stories and spread awareness of the work we do.

Student Volunteers

On Wednesday 28th July Headway House was visited by at bubbly group of volunteers from the ACG Parnell Rotary Interact Club. They spent the morning packing information packs and did an amazing job in making the Art room sparkle. Thank you!

Headway House Glistening

Last month Headway House had a desperately needed wash! The entire outside of the house and all the paths were washed and water blasted.
Inside the House we are now keeping much warmer with the installation of the new heat pump too.

How Can YOU Help Headway House?

At Headway House, 207 Manukau Road, Epsom we hold daily activities and support groups for any person in Auckland affected by brain injury. These activities and services are free of charge to anyone in our community. We need your help to ensure we can keep operating these services.

In 2021 we celebrate 40 years of operating. Our name may have changed a few time but we are The Brain Injury Association, Auckland also referred to as Headway Auckland.
To help us operate into the next next decade we are hoping individuals like you may be able to help us too!

Simple fundraising activities can be fun and help to spread the word about the Charity.
Do you want to host a High Tea? A movie night? A lunch fundraiser? a Cake Sale? Sausage Sizzle? theatre night? or other simple fundraiser in our name?
Please contact Michelle@headway.org.nz.

What's On at Headway House?

Activities

Tai Chi for Wellbeing may be done standing or sitting down, is relaxing and helps calm the mind, also social and fun. This form of Tai Chi was developed by Dr Paul Lam who initially developed 'Tai Chi for Arthritis and falls prevention', and works well with any physical ability.
Come to class wearing comfortable clothing (easy to move in) and bring a bottle of water.

We welcome anyone with an interest in knitting or crochet, or wanting to learn how to knit or crochet, to come along to Headway House on a Wednesday morning from 10.30am. We have just received a wonderful donation of wool from the Remuera Wool Shop. Wool, needles and patterns can be supplied to help you get started. It is as much about the social interaction as it is the knitting.

Headway Harmonies
There were a great number of singers coming along now and we look forward to seeing you all come back once the doors open again. New singers are welcome too, so bring a friend and enjoy the music.
